Creating Space

I lost a little momentum for launching this business on the technical side this past month while working on another side project. In the run up to back to school, I decided to take on the big project of creating a space for a home office and art studio. My family is amazing in the way they always permitted me to occupy the living room, or the kitchen table, and even my bedroom as I chased the best lighting and space for my easel. Still I realized that If I was going to step fully into my calling in art, I really needed a dedicated space. On a strict budget, I patched, painted and installed new flooring to transform the small family room of our walk out basement. It is the perfect space in that I get 8 hours of sunlight through the patio doors and I am close to the kiddos playroom affording me the comfort of their presence and noises while I work. As I pulled the space together, I could feel the excitement well up inside and spur me to push my old bones toward the finish line. Now that it is is done, it is everything I could have imagined or dreamed of. In fact, a week after completion I sat at my desk and looked over the space realizing that I did dream of this studio once in a drawing class at Kellogg Community College a few years ago. The drawing prompt was an imaginary room to flex our perspective drawing skills. My perspective was from my drafting table looking into the room, there is light pouring in from a window, a bookshelf with all of my favorites, a cozy fireplace and a large vase/plant. The imaginary room is adjacent to another room where I heard my family nearby. It was a complete fabrication because I drew it while sitting at my drafting table, that was clumsily placed between the living room and the dining room. Yet today, I look around the space I created and I have a faux fireplace, luscious houseplants, so much light, my books, art supplies and family close by. Its probably the most content I have ever been. All because I prioritized creating the space I needed.
Looking to the next steps, I carry a joy for helping others create a space to express themselves artistically. Today I will hit the pavement looking for venues to host the next paint party. I am so excited for the possibilities and I can't wait to meet you there!
